**Fabric Used:** For this dress, I chose three vibrant Mud Cloth prints—Earth, Blue, and Inky—from Sharon Holland’s Tapestry Collection by Art Gallery Fabrics.
**Did the Fabric Work Well?**
This fabric was nothing short of perfect! The three main hues of the Mud Cloth prints blended beautifully, creating a harmonious palette that made the woven bodice look simply stunning. The secondary pops of color added just the right touch of flair. Art Gallery Fabrics are always a dream to work with—they have such a luxurious drape that makes garment sewing a joy. Initially, I hadn’t planned on using a dual-colored skirt, but once the bodice was complete and I saw how the skirt panels were cut, switching to two colors felt like the natural choice.
**How Did the Sewing Go?**
As expected, the sewing process with an Oliver + S pattern was smooth sailing. The most challenging part was attaching the curved bodice to the skirt, but honestly, it’s similar to sewing a shirt sleeve onto an armhole. Even beginners should find it manageable since the curve isn’t too pronounced.
**What Was the Best Part?**
The highlight of this entire project was seeing it on my daughter. She couldn’t wait to wear it to school the very next day, and she walked around with such confidence! Honestly, you don’t fully appreciate a garment until you see it on a dress form or someone wearing it. At that point, I realized how impeccable the cut of the skirt was—it framed her torso perfectly, and the seams and panels looked flawless.
