At the D.PARK venue of the China International Fashion Week, designer Wang Peina presented her "Spring Peña" 2010 Spring Summer Collection. As an associate professor at Qingdao University and the founder of her own clothing brand, Wang's show drew a crowd of college professors, students, and media representatives. Her work continues to make waves in the fashion world, blending academic insight with creative expression.

Wang Peina described her inspiration as coming from the concept of "urban space," which she sees as both specific and fluid. She believes that fashion is a living history of the city, reflecting its past while pointing toward the future. Her designs draw on the shapes, international influences, and evolving nature of urban environments. Using deconstructed silhouettes, neutral tones, and eco-friendly materials, she aims to express the essence of women in modern cities—intellectual, elegant, and forward-thinking.
As one of the first designers to showcase at the China International Apparel Week in Qingdao, Wang has built a strong career over the years. Graduating from the Beijing Institute of Fashion in 1993, she has spent decades teaching and designing. Her achievements include winning the first prize at the 12th "Jeans Cup" China Casual Wear Design Grand Prix in 2003, being named one of the Top Ten Fashion Designers in Liaoning Province in 2004, and earning the title of Top Ten Fashion Designers in Qingdao in 2005. In 2006, her collection "Delicious Moments" won the Silver Sail Award, and in 2007, her personal show "Di Shang? Garden" was awarded "Best Women’s Wear Brand."
Wang founded the Peña brand, which targets professional women aged 30 to 45, offering European-inspired casual wear in neutral tones. The brand reflects the sophistication and style of urban intellectual women.

The theme of this season’s collection, "Urban Space," explores how fashion reflects the identity and emotions of city dwellers. The collection includes pieces like "I Am," which uses contemporary architectural styles and geometric details; "Who and I," featuring cashew patterns and a blend of Eastern and Western techniques; "Where I’m Going," emphasizing futuristic elements and bright colors; and "Who I Am," using contrasting black and colorful outfits to explore the concept of "shadow."
While the collection shows a clear vision, some critics noted that the fabrics felt slightly rough, the designs were more complex than expected, and the overall tone leaned more towards autumn/winter than spring/summer. The gray palette, while sophisticated, may not fully capture the lightness and vibrancy of a spring collection. Whether it will resonate with the market remains to be seen, but Wang Peina’s work continues to push boundaries and inspire new perspectives in fashion.
