Bansourasa predicted that with the gradual recovery of the global economy and the EU’s revision of relevant laws, Cambodia’s ready-to-wear export environment will be more favorable, and the Cambodian government’s relevant departments are taking active measures to expand Japan’s garment export market. Garment export is one of the pillars of Cambodia’s economic growth and has created more than 300,000 jobs.

According to statistics provided by the Union of Cambodian Trade Unions, Shaoan, Cambodia currently has about 470 garment and shoe factories. In 2010, 51 factories were closed and 4 were discontinued, but 91 new plants were started. In 2009, there were 90 factories in the Cambodian garment industry closed down, 55 companies stopped production, and 47 new factories were started.
