Together, there are too many things that can be complained: sculpture is relatively unappreciated, the will of the chief in the construction of urban sculptures and the will of the boss, the lack of adequate participation opportunities, and the transparent and fair review mechanism, the sculpture market lags far behind the market of painting and calligraphy, Lack of theoretical position and atmosphere of artistic criticism...

Objectively speaking, these problems are facts. Until now, most of them have not yet been resolved. However, looking back at the past year, it is fair to say that these problems have indeed been greatly improved, and that the trend of gradual change and constant improvement cannot be reversed.

As a practitioner in the sculpture industry, in the new year, everyone will think about it. What should the sculpture industry do?

I thought that the Chinese sculpture had reached an overall improvement. In addition to continuing to promote the improvement of the external environment, in the new year, the sculpture community should be more dedicated to the promotion of everyone: the improvement of concepts and horizons, ability and level of improvement. In other words, moderate “complaint” is not a bad idea, but it is not a solution to the problem after all; it is also very important to really solve the problems in the sculpture world, to improve internal strength, and “to seek self-denial”.

For example, with the rapid development of China's economy and the acceleration of urbanization, there are more and more public sculpture opportunities. At this time, it is clearly inappropriate to say that sculpture is not valued. The question now is: When the society has more public sculpture needs, can we come up with decent works? Are we dedicated enough? Is there any industry self-discipline and professional ethics? Since the 1980s, it should be said that quite a number of sculptors have actually become the beneficiaries of the reform and opening up and have become beneficiaries of China’s urbanization. The question now is: How much have we improved ourselves, in addition to continuous gains? How much more can we improve? This is a serious reflection.

For another example, for contemporary sculpture, although the marketization status is still not satisfactory at present, in recent years, the market status has been significantly improved, and a group of individuals who can rely on their own personal creation to survive through the art market have emerged. sculptor. In this state, are sculptors engaged in contemporary creation prepared for the market? Are they quick success? Are their attitudes impetuous? Are they easily led by the market and lost their artistic pursuits?

Looking ahead to the new year, if the sculptural community is clear-headed in its efforts to enhance itself, then by the time we conclude 2011 in the next year, we can see a gratifying improvement in Chinese sculpture.
