Roman Roland Home Textile Knowledge: Porous Cotton

Porous cotton is generally divided into four-hole cotton, seven-hole cotton, and nine-hole cotton. These porous cottons are generally used as fillers for medium and high-grade bedding, and the cost is high. These products are not affected by factors such as lightness, softness, and good hand feeling. Less loved by customers. Of course, at the same time of purchase, some people will have doubts: What kind of cotton is this porous cotton?

In fact, what we call porous cotton is not the naturally-growing white cotton we often say. It is essentially a polyester fiber product.

The "hole" of the porous cotton refers to the observation of the section of the polyester fiber under a high power microscope, and the number of pores of the fiber cross section is generally referred to as four holes, seven holes, nine holes, and the like.

So what effect does the number of holes have on material properties? Generally speaking, because the air is stored in the cavity, the higher the number of holes, the more the amount of air is. The air is more abundant under the condition of the insulation layer, and the better the ventilation and heat preservation. The more air is filled in the cavity, the more channels are compressed and rebounded, and the more the bulkiness is enhanced. Therefore, the more the number of pores in the fiber, the better its breathability, warmth, and bulkiness, and the softer it is.

Roman Roland Home Textiles reminds you that four-hole cotton, seven-hole cotton and nine-hole cotton are not cotton, but chemical fiber products. The official name of porous fiber is: "spiral three-dimensional crimped polyester hollow fiber".
